Frequently Asked Questions
How does image compression work?
Upload an image and pick a compression level — Low (best quality), Recommended (balanced), or High (smallest file) — or fine-tune the exact quality with the slider. We re-encode the image with optimized settings (mozjpeg for JPGs) to shrink the file, then show you exactly how much smaller it got.
Will compressing reduce the image quality?
Higher compression trades a little visual quality for a much smaller file. At the Recommended level the difference is barely noticeable for photos. Use Low to stay closest to the original, or High when the smallest possible file matters most.
How much smaller will my file get?
It depends on the image, but photos often shrink by 50–80%. After compressing we show the before and after sizes and the exact percentage saved so you can see the result at a glance.
Can I compress without losing dimensions?
Yes — by default we keep the original width and height and only optimize the encoding. If you want even smaller files, set an optional Max width (e.g. 1920 px) to scale large images down as well.
Which format gives the smallest file?
For photographs, WebP and JPG compress far smaller than PNG. PNG is best for logos, screenshots, and graphics with sharp edges or transparency. Keep the original format, or convert to JPG, WebP, or PNG in the same step.
What if my image is already optimized?
If we cannot make it meaningfully smaller without changing the format or size, we return your original file unchanged so you never end up with a larger image.
Is it safe and free?
Yes. Images are processed over an encrypted connection and deleted within 1 hour — we never store or share them. Compression is free, with a daily watermark-free allowance; beyond it, output stays free but carries a small PaperFlow mark. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited clean output.
